Flick signs contract extension keeping him at Barcelona at least until 2028

BARCELONA, Spain (AP) — Barcelona and Hansi Flick have reached a deal to extend the coach’s contract until 2028 with the option for an another season.

Barcelona said the 61-year-old Flick, whom it calls the “architect of a winning Barça,” signed his new contract on Monday.

“In just two season at FC Barcelona, Flick has already written himself into club history with trophies, records and a vision of the future,” Barcelona said. “The German wants to continue this success and bring yet more success to his time as Barça coach.”

Flick had already talked about the extension last week after leading the club to its second consecutive Spanish league title, saying Barcelona gave him and his staff the confidence to keep working.

“For me it’s a pleasure to continue this journey,” he said Monday. “Every day I can feel this passion that the club, the staff, the players and also the fans have. And this is amazing. I want to win more titles. This is our goal, to win more titles, maybe also the Champions League, we are working for that.”

Flick has previously said he doesn’t plan on coaching again after ending his time with Barcelona. He arrived at the club in May 2024 to replace Xavi Hernández.

Flick had previously coached Bayern Munich and Germany’s national team.
