Diver dies off West Vancouver, in second B.C. scuba death in days

WEST VANCOUVER — A man has died while scuba diving off West Vancouver, in the second such death in British Columbia waters in less than a week.

West Vancouver police say they received a call about a diver in distress off Whytecliff Park around 1:30 p.m. on Sunday.

They say agencies, including the Coast Guard, fire and rescue and paramedics, responded but the 50-year-old man was declared dead at the scene.

Police say his family has been notified and there are no suspicious circumstances.

On Wednesday, another scuba diver died off Gabriola Island off the east coast of Vancouver Island.

RCMP said the death of the 66-year-old man, who was found in the water near a mooring buoy, wasn’t suspicious.
