BGC Okanagan offers summer childcare and recreation programs for kids across the Okanagan

Business Spotlight

Summer at BGC Okanagan (formerly known as Boys and Girls Club of the Okanagan) is designed around one simple idea: children deserve summers that feel exciting, meaningful and full of connection.

For families searching for summer childcare, summer camps or recreation programs for kids, BGC Okanagan offers two reliable options across the region: licensed full-day summer childcare programs and summer recreation programs.

Programs are available in many communities across the Okanagan, including Penticton, Summerland, Peachland, West Kelowna, Kelowna, Lake Country, Vernon and Armstrong. Each option is designed to meet different family needs while giving kids memorable summer experiences filled with friendship, outdoor play, creativity and belonging.

Across BGC Okanagan programs, children spend their days building friendships, staying active, exploring their communities, trying new things and creating memories that last long after summer ends.

“Before my son joined the Club, he was shy, but since joining he has become more confident in making friends. At home he tells me how much fun he has and how he can’t wait to go back for all the activities,” said a parent of a Club participant.

What Is Our Licensed full-day Summer Childcare for School-Age Children?

BGC Okanagan’s licensed summer childcare program provides safe, reliable full-day care for kids who have completed Kindergarten to Grade 7.

Children will spend their summer immersed in adventures filled with creativity, exploration, friendship and nonstop fun. One week they may be designing wild science experiments, solving

mysteries and tackling giant team challenges, while the next they are building forts, creating masterpieces, exploring nature trails, cooling off at splash parks and beaches, visiting local attractions or diving into themed adventures inspired by pirates, superheroes, space exploration and outdoor survival.

“Every day is designed to keep children active, connected and excited to come back while building confidence, friendships and unforgettable summer memories,” states Becky Kirkham, BGC Okanagan’s Director of Child Care.

Some children arrive ready to lead every game. Others need time to settle in and build comfort. BGC Okanagan programs are designed to support both by creating spaces where every child can participate at their own pace and feel a true sense of belonging.

For many families, BGC Okanagan summer childcare becomes one of the highlights of the year because children are not only cared for, they are engaged, connected and thriving.

What Are Our Summer Recreation Programs for Children Ages 7 to 13?

BGC Okanagan’s Summer Rec Dayz programs give children ages 7 to 13 opportunities to stay active, connect with friends and experience summer in new ways. These summer recreation programs include outdoor activities, group challenges, time at the Club and out-trips to sites across the Okanagan.

Every day brings opportunities for laughter, teamwork, creativity and connection while children spend time with caring staff and positive role models in a welcoming, inclusive environment.

One 12-year-old BGC Okanagan participant put it simply. “I like coming to the Club to meet new friends and I love getting to go on out-trips to places in the community that I have never been before.”

Like the BGC Okanagan childcare program, the 2026 recreation programs are designed to help children feel connected, supported and part of something meaningful throughout the summer.

Two Great Summer Options for Families

BGC Okanagan summer programs are offered in the Boys and Girls Club centres in Penticton, Summerland, Peachland, West Kelowna, Kelowna, Lake Country, Vernon and Armstrong.

Program availability varies by Club, and many programs are filling quickly. Families looking for licensed summer childcare or recreation programs for children in the Okanagan are encouraged to register early to secure their child’s summer spot. “When children have safe places to belong, explore and grow, summer becomes more than a break from school,” continues Kirkham.

It becomes an opportunity. Opportunity changes everything.
