iN NUMBERS: BC NDP more popular in Southern Interior despite new BC Cons leader

It’s likely too early to tell whether the BC Conservatives made a good choice by picking Kerry-Lynne Findlay as the new party leader. She won by a thin margin, just two per cent, last week. Premier David Eby has some harsh criticism but Findlay has some catching up to do with voters in the Southern Interior if she hopes to unseat him in the next election.

Here are the numbers from a Research Co. poll conducted shortly after Findlay’s win:

  • 30: Per cent of people polled in the Southern Interior approve of the new BC Conservative leader Kerry-Lynne Findlay.
  • 40: Per cent of people polled in the Southern Interior disapprove of Findlay.
  • 54: Per cent of people polled in the Southern Interior approve of BC NDP Premier David Eby.
  • 33: Per cent of people polled in the Southern Interior approve of the BC Green Party’s new Gen Z leader Emily Lowan.
  • 47: Per cent of British Columbians polled said the province needs a centre-right party to serve as an alternative to the BC NDP and the BC Conservatives.
  • 19: Per cent of British Columbians polled approve of Centre BC’s leader Karin Kirkpatrick.
  • 3: Demographics lean towards the BC Conservatives: men, voters 18 to 34 and voters 35 to 54.
  • 2: Regions of the province are leaning towards the BC Conservatives: Northern BC and the Fraser Valley.
  • 2: Demographics lean towards the BC NDP: women and voters 55 and older.
  • 3: Regions in the province are leaning towards the BC NDP: Southern Interior, Metro Vancouver and Vancouver Island.
