Manitoba Telecom Services launches strategic review of Allstream business

WINNIPEG – Manitoba Telecom Services Inc. (TSX:MBT) is launching a strategic review of its Allstream business.

The company says the process will occur over the course of the coming year.

Strategic reviews by companies are often a prelude to a sale or other transaction.

In Manitoba, MTS is a provider of telecommunications services for residential and business customers, while in the rest of Canada, Allstream is focused on the business market.

MTS Allstream says the review follows legislative amendments recently passed by Ottawa that allow increased foreign investment in certain telecommunications companies, such as Allstream.

The company says the recent change is a “logical opportunity to consider a full range of alternatives that could be undertaken to further enhance Allstream’s growing competitiveness.”
