Cho schedules press conference in skate tampering allegations

SALT LAKE CITY – An lawyer for Olympic speedskating medallist Simon Cho says his client will hold a press conference to discuss allegations in a coach abuse scandal that he tampered with Canadian rival Olivier Jean’s skates in the 2011 World Team Championships.

His Friday news conference comes as an independent investigative report on Jae Su Chun is scheduled to be released.

The 20-year-old Cho told reporters Sunday he expects to be suspended or banned because of tampering allegations but declined to say if they were true.

The allegations are part of a scandal involving U.S. coach Chun, accused in a demand for arbitration of ordering Cho to sabotage Jean’s skates. A dozen national team members also have accused Chun of verbal, physical and psychological abuse.

Chun has denied all allegations but is suspended.
