PENTICTON – Firefighters raising money for Muscular Dystrophy by camping on top of the Penticton Safeway surpassed their goal of raising $10,000.
The second annual Rooftop Campout pulled in $16,670. The Muscular Dystrophy Canada South Okanagan Volunteer Chapter partnered with firefighters in the campaign that took place February 20-22. Firefighters camped out in shifts, eating and sleeping on the roof as donations were taken at Safeway registers and online.
Donated funds will go toward improving the quality of life for people with neuromuscular disorders by purchasing mobility equipment, providing support services, and funding research, which will one day lead to a cure.
