Classes cancelled at B.C. school after two students faint, taken to hospital

PORT MOODY, B.C. – School has been cancelled for the day at Aspenwood Elementary in Port Moody, B.C., after two students fainted and were taken to hospital.

Cheryl Quinton, with the Coquitlam School District, says 500 students were sent home for the day after the children fainted during singing rehearsals.

She says paramedics were called and took the students to hospital as a precaution.

Local firefighters also arrived on scene, and Quinton says they recommended the school be evacuated while they perform an air-quality test.

Quinton says firefighters found nothing amiss with an initial test, but they decided to perform further tests.

She says the school the released the remaining kindergarten to Grade 5 students early, and the district will update its website to let parents know if the school will be open Friday.
