Victoria police called out emergency team in dispute between neighbours

VICTORIA – It appears even good fences wouldn’t solve this neighbourly dispute.

Victoria police had to call out the emergency response team after a dispute between two Esquimalt, B.C., neighbours resulted in what was believed to be shots fired early Thursday morning.

Police identified a suite in a home and eventually made contact with a man inside and persuaded him to come out.

However, police say the man refused to listen to police and because they didn’t know where the firearm was, they took the man into custody after shooting him with a non-lethal anti-riot gun.

Officers later found a bear-boomer device that they say the man set off because he was annoyed at a neighbour who was banging on his door.

The 30-year-old man was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure and was released.

Police are recommending mischief charges against him.
