Man dies despite rescue efforts after vehicle veers off highway and enters lake

VERNON, B.C. – A man has died after his vehicle veered off Highway 97 and went into a lake between Kelowna and Vernon, B.C.

RCMP say the driver died despite rescue efforts by witnesses and emergency personnel.

Cindy Rogers was driving by Wood Lake when she saw the accident and went into the freezing water to try and rescue whoever was in trouble.

Rogers says all she could think was that someone was in danger or dead and that she had to help.

It’s not known what caused the Jeep to go off the road or if other people were inside.

The highway was closed for several hours as police and the coroner’s service investigated. (CKIZ)
