New Blue Jays ace Dickey says Toronto has great baseball pedigree
TORONTO – R.A. Dickey says he’s looking forward to calling himself a Canadian for six months a year.
The Toronto Blue Jays formally introduced Dickey today at Rogers Centre after acquiring the National League Cy Young winner from the New York Mets last month.
The knuckleballer says he is excited by general manager Alex Anthopoulos’s plans for the Blue Jays for the coming years.
He says Toronto has an excellent baseball pedigree and remembers Joe Carter’s home run to win the 1993 World Series for the Blue Jays. He says he is looking forward to discovering more about Toronto.
Dickey had a 20-6 record with a 2.73 earned-run average and 203 strikeouts for the Mets last season.
He joins an impressive Blue Jays rotation including recently acquired arms Mark Buehrle and Josh Johnson as well as returning starters Ricky Romero and Brandon Morrow.
