Man accused of throwing plastic bottle, abusing Bolt before Olympic 100 final

LONDON – A man who threw a plastic beer bottle onto the track and shouted abuse at Usain Bolt before the men’s 100-meter final at the London Olympics has been convicted of public disorder.

Ashley Gill-Web, who suffers from bipolar affective disorder, was found guilty by a London court on Friday of using threatening, abusive or disorderly behaviour.

District Judge William Ashworth told Stratford Magistrates’ Court that Gill-Webb’s actions were “rational and wrong” and intended to cause distress.

The case was adjourned until Feb. 4 for sentencing.

Bolt, who won the gold medal in 9.63 seconds, said after the race that he hadn’t noticed the incident.

The 34-year-old Gill-Web, who lives in the northern city of Leeds, used an old ticket to get into the Olympic Stadium.
