Brookfield gives up attempt to negotiate friendly takeover of Western Wind

VANCOUVER – Brookfield Renewable Energy Partners LP (TSX:BEP.UN) has given up trying to convince the directors of Western Wind Energy Corp. (TSXV:WND) to negotiate a friendly takeover deal. Brookfield Renewable said Thursday that it has broken off talks with Western Wind’s management, alleging that its chief executive has no intention of selling the company — given that no alternative offer has emerged. Brookfield says its offer of $2.50 per share cash is on the table until Jan. 28.
