Snowboarder suffocates in Austria after landing head-first in deep snow

VIENNA – Austria’s state broadcaster says a snowboarder suffocated after landing head-first in deep snow.

Broadcaster ORF cites police as saying the unidentified German fell into a ravine where more than 4 metres (more than 12 feet) of snow had accumulated at Tyrol’s Saalbach-Hinterglem skiing region.

The ORF website said that an emergency doctor flown in by helicopter was unable to revive the 32-year-old victim Wednesday.
