Black Keys ready for Grammys with performance and 5 nods, including album, record of the year

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Black Keys still feel like the black sheep of the Grammy Awards.

The band is nominated for five awards, including album of the year. But singer-guitarist Dan Auerbach says the nominations are “unexpected” and he doesn’t think the group will get used to the acclaim.

The bluesy Ohio-based rockers were rehearsing Friday for their live performance at the award show with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band and legendary New Orleans pianist Dr. John.

Drummer Patrick Carney said after rehearsals that it’s surreal being at Staples Center and seeing all the musicians gathering for their annual “pat on the back.”

Justin Timberlake could also be heard rehearsing as he transitioned from his comeback single “Suit & Tie” to a new song called “Push Your Love Girl,” which featured his falsetto.
