Quebec man, 82, faces child-sex charges after being nabbed in Dominican Republic
MONTREAL – An 82-year-old Quebec man has been arrested in the Dominican Republic for the alleged sexual exploitation of children.
Quebec provincial police say they arrested Joseph-Charles-Philippe Cote and escorted him back to Canada on Thursday.
Cote had been the subject of a Canada-wide arrest warrant. A report in a Dominican newspaper says he was arrested in Sousa, in the Puerto Plata region.
Cote is expected to be formally arraigned in Montreal this afternoon. Police say he’s facing several charges, including importation, possession and production of juvenile pornography as well as invitation to sexual contact with minors.
He was initially flagged by the Canada Border Service Agency.
Provincial police executed a search warrant and say hundreds of pictures of children were found on a computer.
Police allege the elderly man travelled frequently to the Dominican Republic for the purpose of sexually exploiting children.
