VICTORIA – Mike Aviani scored at 3:38 of overtime as the Spokane Chiefs edged the host Victoria Royals 4-3 on Friday in Western Hockey League action.
Blake Gal, Mitch Holmberg and Carter Proft also scored for the Chiefs (38-24-2), who won their fourth game in a row, while Brenden Kichton chipped in with three assists.
Logan Nelson scored twice for the Royals (32-25-6), who are now winless in eight games, and Brett Cote assisted on all three of his club’s goals.
Brandon Magee had a goal and an assist to round out Victoria’s offence.
Garret Hughson made 29 saves for the win as Patrik Polivka stopped 32 shots in defeat.
Spokane went 2 for 6 on the power play while Victoria scored twice on five chances with the man advantage.
