Easter weekend travellers get in thousands of car accidents, says ICBC
VANCOUVER – The celebration of the Easter long weekend comes with a caution for drivers from police and the Insurance Corporation of B.C.
Statistics show every Easter weekend averages four deaths and 630 injuries in 2,200 vehicle crashes throughout the province.
Almost 1,500 of these accidents occur in the Lower Mainland alone.
ICBC says crashes can be prevented by mapping out trips, being prepared for icy conditions and keeping at least a two second distance between other cars.
Victoria Police Chief Const. Jamie Graham says drivers need to slow down and focus on the road.
Transportation Minister Mary Polak says anyone heading out on a trip can now check road conditions ahead of time through over 300 webcams on roads across the province, now available to view on DriveBC’s website.
