Video evidence in murder trial of Calgary mom shows little
CALGARY – It was the sound of silence at the murder trial of a Calgary woman accused of killing two of her newborn babies.
Meredith Borowiec (BOHR’-uh-WIK’), who is 31, did a lengthy interview with police in November 2011 after she became a suspect in the deaths of the two infants.
Court has heard that when Borowiec entered the interview room, there was an 80-minute delay because one of the officers was unable to attend right away.
Her lawyer, Michael Bates, rejected a request from the Crown that the video be skipped forward to when the actual interview begins.
He insisted the entire 80 minutes be played of Borowiec sitting alone in the interview room.
Borowiec is charged with second-degree murder in the deaths of two infants in 2008 and 2009.
She faces another trial this fall for attempted murder for allegedly dumping another child into a garbage bin in 2010.
