Emma and William top the list of most popular names in Quebec in 2012

QUEBEC – Emma dethroned Lea as the most popular name for a girl in Quebec in 2012.

There were 505 Emmas born in the province last year, compared with 474 Leas.

Among boys, William remained atop the list with 855, just ahead of Nathan with 839.

Lea, the most popular name since 2004, was followed by Olivia, Florence and Alice.

Olivier, Alexis and Samuel rounded out the top five for boys.

The list was compiled by a Quebec government agency.
