TORONTO – Canada’s Avril Lavigne has released the upbeat new single “Here’s to Never Growing Up,” her first since her last album “Goodbye Lullaby” in 2011.
The song was co-written by Lavigne and her fiance Chad Kroeger, as well as three other songwriters.
The new tune is thought to be the first single from her as-yet-untitled fifth album, which her record label says she plans to release in 2013.
Lavigne, who’s once again working with original mentor L.A. Reid, also released a lyric video for the track.
Thus far, the early notices on Lavigne’s new music were mixed.
Entertainment Weekly praised the track as a “classic drinking tune” while New York magazine’s Vulture blog argued that the tune felt “oddly redolent” of Ke$ha, Miley Cyrus and Rita Ora’s “How We Do (Party),” adding that listeners should “proceed with caution” lest it get stuck in their heads.
