The UCI will work with French anti-doping agency to test riders at Tour de France

PARIS – The International Cycling Union will work with the French anti-doping agency to test riders at this year’s Tour de France.

The French agency, known as AFLD, has been involved in several rifts with cycling’s governing body, most recently when it refused to test riders at last month’s Paris-Nice race.

In a statement Monday, UCI President Pat McQuaid says: “The UCI is determined to ensure that cycling is a clean sport…Together (with the AFLD) we will ensure that today’s young riders in the peloton are not tarnished by issues that took place years in the past.”

The UCI and the independent Cycling Anti-Doping Foundation will also work with the AFLD to test riders at the Criterium du Dauphine in June.

The Tour de France takes place from June 29 to July 21.
