Dad and daughter killed after large boulder falls on tent: police
WHISTLER, B.C. – A 49-year-old North Vancouver man and his 10-year-old daughter have died after a large boulder apparently fell from a rock face and landed on their tent while they were camping.
Whistler RCMP Sgt. Rob Knapton says the two skiers were reported missing at about noon Sunday after they failed to return from an overnight camping trip on Blackcomb Mountain.
He says a local search and rescue effort that included the ski patrol ran from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., when it was suspended for safety reasons.
An air and ground search resumed at 6:30 Monday morning, and about five hours later, a tent was located above an area called the Windlip.
The bodies of the man and his daughter were discovered inside the tent.
Police are not releasing their names at this time.
