Elections watchdog says two Tory MPs should be suspended over election spending

OTTAWA – The chief electoral officer has written to the Speaker of the House of Commons to advise that two Manitoba Conservative MPs should be suspended because of problems with their elections expenses.

Shelly Glover and James Bezan have been discussing their expense returns with officials from Elections Canada.

John Enright, a spokesman for the elections watchdog, says auditors found problems with both returns and requested changes.

Agents for the two MPs have refused to make the required changes.

The MPs can file court challenges, but Chief Electoral Officer Marc Mayrand has no choice but to formally advise Speaker Andrew Scheer that the two should be suspended.

Enright says the next move is up to the Speaker.
