WINNIPEG – A Colorado man accused of attacking his estranged wife and kidnapping his son could be ordered deported later today.
The Immigration and Refugee Board is holding an admissibility hearing for Monty Ray Turner.
Turner, who is 51, is suspected of breaking into his estranged wife’s home last month, attacking her with a stun gun and pepper spray and kidnapping the couple’s three year-old son Luke.
Turner and his son were discovered the next day at a motel in Brandon, Man.
A lawyer for the Canada Border Services Agency is asking that Turner be ruled inadmissible to Canada because of the criminal charges in the United States.
Lawyer Warren Kelly says Turner’s alleged crimes would bring a maximum life sentence in Canada, and the law says people are inadmissible if they are accused of crimes with maximum penalties of 10 years or more.
