LIMA, Peru – Peru’s justice minister says President Ollanta Humala has decided not to grant a humanitarian pardon for jailed former leader Alberto Fujimori.
Justice Minister Daniel Figallo announced Friday that Fujimori’s health problems are not serious enough to merit a pardon. He says that the former leader does not have a terminal or “grave, incurable, degenerative” condition.
The 74-year-old Fujimori is serving a 25-year prison sentence for human rights violations. He has been seeking a pardon on humanitarian grounds since October.
