In 2011 video, Stephen Harper hams it up with spot-on impressions of former PMs
OTTAWA – A video of the prime minister hamming it up on election day two years ago has surfaced online.
The candid images of Stephen Harper doing his comic impressions of prime ministers past was filmed during preparations for election night in 2011.
A jovial, relaxed-looking Harper provides his take on his favourite prime minister, John Diefenbaker, and also former Tory leaders Joe Clark and Brian Mulroney.
Throughout the video, his son and his wife try to get him back on script but Harper continues the gag, much to the delight of a handful of observers who can be heard laughing throughout.
One of them, Conservative Sen. Marjory LeBreton, has worked with all the leaders Harper mimicked and says he did a pretty good job.
The video’s sudden appearance on YouTube comes a week after Brent Rathgeber quit the Conservative caucus, complaining of rigid control emanating from Harper’s office.
