B.C. float plane loses propeller, holes pontoons, but still make safe landing

HALFMOON BAY, B.C. – The float plane lost a propeller in mid-flight, chopping into both pontoons, but RCMP say the pilot still managed to make a safe — but powerless — landing.

Police say the incident happened Monday afternoon shortly after the plane left Powell River, B.C.

The Seair Beaver float plane was forced to make an emergency landing in Halfmoon Bay on B.C.’s Sunshine Coast when the plane’s propeller came off.

And while both pontoons were damaged after being struck by the propeller, the plane managed to stay afloat because there are several sealed compartments in each pontoon.

The pilot and three passengers weren’t hurt.

The plane was safety towed to shore by a Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue vessel and two other civilian-operated vessels that were nearby.
