Deadmau5, Kat Von D announce online that they’ve broken off engagement

TORONTO – Deadmau5’s whirlwind romance with Kat Von D appears to have reached its end.

The electronic music producer from Niagara Falls, Ont. — whose real name is Joel Zimmerman — and the American tattoo artist and reality TV star have each presented their side of the breakup on social media.

Just before Christmas, the multiple Grammy-nominated, mouse-eared dance star proposed to Von D via Twitter, and announced shortly afterward that she had accepted.

But on Wednesday, Von D took to the social-media website to announce that the pair were no longer a couple.

Zimmerman explained himself in a Facebook post, which he said was “all I am saying on the matter.”

Von D, star of the show “LA Ink,” made headlines for previous relationships with Motley Crue bassist Nikki Sixx and fellow reality TV star Jesse James, who had been married to Sandra Bullock before they got together.

She and Zimmerman have documented all the twists in their relationship on Twitter, including their first breakup last fall.
