Flyers agree to terms on eight-year extension with Claude Giroux
PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia Flyers are locking up star centre Claude Giroux to a long-term contract extension.
The two sides have agreed to terms on an eight-year contract extension that will reportedly pay the centre $66.2 million over the length of the deal.
The 25-year-old will count US$8.275 million against the salary cap beginning in 2014-’15.
Giroux had 13 goals and 35 assists last season even as the Flyers missed the playoffs.
The 22nd overall pick in the 2006 NHL draft has 91 goals and 200 assists in 333 career regular-season games.
Giroux’s contract extension is part of an already busy summer for Philadelphia, which also bought out goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov and signed centre Vincent Lecavalier.
