Federal Public Safety Minister Vic Toews resigns

STEINBACH, Man. – Federal Public Safety Minister Vic Toews (TAVES) has announced he is resigning as MP for the Manitoba riding of Provencher (pro-VOHN’-chay).

Toews told Steinbach radio station CHSM his retirement is effective Tuesday.

He says he will be pursuing opportunities in the private sector.

Toews, who is 60, was first elected to the house of Commons in 2000 and was re-elected four times.

He was minister of justice before he was appointed to the public safety portfolio.
