Driver doing U-turn hit, takes off as cop sees seat switch with passenger
LANGLEY, B.C. – RCMP say a driver who did a sudden U-turn and was hit by a motorcyclist caused more problems for himself by switching seats with a passenger before taking off and hiding in some bushes.
Cpl. Holly Marks says that after the car was struck, the seat switch was seen by a reliable witness — an off-duty Vancouver police officer who followed the vehicle and watched as the driver fled.
Mounties found the driver and ticketed him for failing to remain at the scene of a collision, driving without a licence and driving without due care and attention.
Marks says the motorcyclist who couldn’t avoid the collision lost control and ended up on his back.
His vehicle sustained a significant amount of damage.
Langley RCMP Insp. Rob de Boersap says he’s grateful for the off-duty officer’s help.
