Inquiry into death of five-year-old to start hearing final submissions
WINNIPEG – The inquiry into the horrific death of a little girl will start hearing final submissions today.
The inquiry into the death of Phoenix Sinclair is scheduled to hear from the lawyer representing the five-year-old’s foster mother and father.
Commissioner Ted Hughes is examining how Phoenix slipped through cracks in the child-welfare system, and how her death went undiscovered for months.
Phoenix’s death was discovered in 2006 — nine months after the five-year-old died from prolonged abuse at the hands of her mother and stepfather.
Both were convicted of first-degree murder in 2008 and have exhausted their appeals.
Final submissions are scheduled to wrap up next week and a report is expected by December.
