Pete Sampras doesn’t see record he shares with Federer being touched soon

TORONTO – Retired tennis star Pete Sampras thinks the Wimbledon men’s singles record he shares with Roger Federer is safe for the foreseeable future.

Sampras is coming to Toronto next month for his induction into the Rogers Cup Hall of Fame and to play in the Rogers Legends Cup.

Sampras and Federer each have seven singles wins at the All England Club.

Scotland’s Andy Murray won his first Wimbledon title earlier this month.

Sampras said on a conference call today that Murray is one of the dominant players in the world and is the man to beat at the U.S. Open.

But he doesn’t see anyone being able to dominate on Wimbledon’s grass the way he and Federer did.
