Man says he doesn’t remember jabbing fellow student in eye with pool cue

KAMLOOPS, B.C. – An international student accused of thrusting a pool cue through the eye of a fellow student says he doesn’t remember the attack at a nightclub in Kamloops, B.C.

Yousef Almotaiti told B.C. Supreme Court that he didn’t mean to strike the other student in the incident captured on video surveillance last November.

Crown lawyer Chris Galison called the memory lapse convenient, saying Almotaiti intended to strike 28-year-old Abdulaziz Alhedaib.

The Thompson Rivers University student could be deported to his native Saudi Arabia if he’s convicted of aggravated assault and assault with a weapon.

Alhedaib suffered a severe brain injury, required surgery and is partially paralyzed on the left side of his body.

Final submissions are expected Monday. (CHNL)
