Golden Missy: Franklin makes it 2 for 2 at world swimming championships, winning 100 back

BARCELONA, Spain – Missy Franklin has won her second gold medal of the world swimming championships.

Franklin pulled away for an easy victory in the 100-meter backstroke Tuesday in Barcelona, but the celebration was short-lived. She hustled off to get ready for the semifinal of the 200 freestyle.

The winning time was 58.42 seconds.

Emily Seebohm of Australia claimed silver in 59.06. The bronze went to Japan’s Aya Terakawa in 59.23.

Franklin is trying to join Michael Phelps as the only swimmers to claim eight gold medals at a major championship. She is now 2 for 2 at the Palau Sant Jordi, adding to her gold in the 4×100 free relay.
