Kyle Walters named acting general manager of Blue Bombers, replacing Joe Mack
WINNIPEG – Kyle Walters has been named acting general manager of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, replacing Joe Mack, who was fired last week amid the team’s 1-5 start.
Walters served as Mack’s assistant GM this season after spending three seasons on the coaching staff.
The team said he has been responsible for CIS scouting and assisted football operations in managing the salary cap, negotiating contracts and recruiting players.
“Kyle knows our football team inside and out and is the right man to serve as our acting general manager,” acting CEO Wade Miller said in a statement. “I have every confidence that he will play a major role in helping us get a consistently competitive product back on the field.”
Miller is acting CEO after last week’s shake-up included the departure of Garth Buchko, who had been in that post since January 2012.
Walters previously coached the University of Guelph. Before that he won a Grey Cup as a player with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 1999.
