Blue Jays place starter Josh Johnson on 15-day DL with forearm tightness
TORONTO – The Blue Jays placed starting pitcher Josh Johnson on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday.
Johnson felt tightness in his right forearm while playing catch a day before he was scheduled to start against the Boston Red Sox.
Johnson had been scratched from a start Monday after feeling soreness in the forearm, but he said the arm felt fine Tuesday prior to the workout.
The 29-year-old has struggled through his first season with Toronto.
Johnson (2-8) has a 6.20 earned-run average but felt he had made a step forward after pitching five spotless innings last week in Seattle.
The Blue Jays called up right-hander Thad Weber from triple-A Buffalo to fill the roster spot. General manager Alex Anthopoulos said either Weber or Esmil Rogers could replace Johnson for Wednesday’s game against the Red Sox.
