Clark, Mitchell score 34 apiece as Fever beat Sun 111-91

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell each scored 34 points as the the Indiana Fever got past the Connecticut Sun 111-91 on Friday.

The pair scored 30 or more for the fourth game this season, extending their WNBA single-season record for a duo.

Clark added 12 assists, marking the fifth time this year she’s had a double-double with at least 30 and 10.

Mitchell notched her 24th straight 20-point game in the Fever’s final game before a three-week break for the FIBA Women’s World Cup. Indiana has won seven of nine as Clark, Aliyah Boston, and coach Stephanie White head to Berlin for the tournament. Boston scored 14 points.

Diamond Miller finished with 19 points and Nell Angloma had 17 to lead Connecticut, who have lost six of their last eight games.

FIRE 101, DREAM 83

ATLANTA (AP) — Carla Leite scored 26 points, Emily Engstler added a career-high 25 and the Portland Fire beat playoff-bound Atlanta 101-83 on Friday night, ending the Dream’s four-game winning streak.

Leite shot 9 of 13 and Engstler was 11 of 14 as Portland finished at 58% (38 of 65) from the field.

Angel Reese had 16 points and 16 rebounds for the Dream (25-14), who fell into fifth place in the standings, one-half game behind Indiana. Reese, who has already set the league record for rebounds in a season, matched a WNBA record with her 28th double-double of the year.

Reese was assessed her eighth technical foul of the season, but the call was rescinded by the WNBA a few hours after the game ended. As a result, Reese will be available for Sunday’s game against league-leading Minnesota, which is Atlanta’s final game before the FIBA Women’s World Cup break.

Rhyne Howard scored 26 points for the Dream in their return home after an unbeaten, four-game West Coast trip.

SPARKS 88, MYSTICS 82

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Nneka Ogwumike had 24 points, Rae Burrell scored 12 of her 15 points in the fourth quarter, and Los Angeles beat Washington.

Los Angeles went on a 13-2 run late in the fourth quarter to pull away. Burrell made a 3-pointer with 2:54 left and added a transition layup on Los Angeles’ next possession — following a block by Cameron Brink — to cap the run and go ahead 85-78.

Brink finished with 13 points and two blocks off the bench for Los Angeles (14-25). Monique Akoa Makani had 10 points.

Washington (24-16) was playing on consecutive nights for the first time this season after beating Phoenix 80-73 on Thursday. The Mystics turned the ball over 17 times, leading to 31 points for Los Angeles.

ACES 93, TEMPO 73

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A’ja Wilson had 27 points and eight rebounds, Jackie Young scored 23 points, and Las Vegas beat Toronto.

Young also had eight assists with no turnovers. Chelsea Gray added 11 points. It was the Aces’ first game without NaLyssa Smith, who was lost for the remainder of the season after suffering a left leg injury in Sunday’s 88-78 win over Toronto.

Isabelle Harrison scored 15 points for Toronto (11-28), Laura Juskaite 14, Kia Nurse 12 and Kiki Rice and reserve Kiana Williams 10 apiece.

With Friday’s win, the Aces (27-13) maintained their one-game lead for third place in the WNBA playoff race ahead of Indiana (26-14), which beat Connecticut 111-91.
