Man shot and killed by RCMP officers in northeastern Alberta

COLD LAKE, Alta. – RCMP say a man has been shot and killed by officers in northeastern Alberta.

They say the 52-year-old was shot at a home on the Cold Lake First Nation on Thursday and was pronounced dead in hospital.

Police says officers were at the home to arrest the man when a confrontation took place.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team, an independent body that investigates police actions that lead to serious injury or death, is at the scene.

There have been a handful of other shootings involving Alberta police in recent weeks.

One man died and his brother suffered chest wounds when Mounties shot them during a traffic stop in a beach community south of Edmonton.

In the community of Leduc, a man died after police used a Taser during an arrest and near Grande Cache a man was hurt when he was shot during a traffic stop.
