Almost 100 people report symptoms of foodborne illness at Toronto CNE:officials

TORONTO – Public health officials in Toronto say almost 100 people have reported symptoms of foodborne illness after attending the Canadian National Exhibition.

On Tuesday night paramedics at the fair treated 12 people who had symptoms of gastrointestinal illnesses, sending five of them to hospital.

The number of reported cases rose to 34 on Wednesday.

Public health officials have said a “thorough investigation” is underway.

Food samples from a vendor have been sent to a lab for testing but the source of illness hasn’t been confirmed.

The CNE vendor Epic Burger and Waffles will voluntarily remain closed as a precaution while health officials continue their investigation.

Toronto Public Health is asking people to notify them if they have symptoms such as an upset stomach, diarrhoea, fever, vomiting, stomach cramps and dehydration.
