B.C. firefighters deployed to battle wildfires in Montana and Washington

VANCOUVER – The provincial government says it is sending more B.C. firefighters and resources to battle wildfires raging in Montana and Washington.

The Forests Ministry says the deployments are in addition to resources already on their way to fight fires in Idaho.

On Wednesday, the National Interagency Fire Center in Idaho ranked America’s top firefighting priorities, listing three wildfires in Montana as Number One.

The centre identified at least 51 major uncontained wildfires burning in the western U.S.

The B.C. government says a recent decrease in wildfire activity throughout the province means it is possible to share resources with other jurisdictions.

The latest crews to be deployed will be out of B.C. for up to 19 days, but they can be recalled at any time.
