TORONTO – After months of trying to land Maximiliano Urruti, Toronto FC has traded the Argentine striker.
A source said Toronto has sent the 22-year-old Urruti to the Portland Timbers for 26-year-old American forward Bright Dike.
A club spokesman declined comment on the deal but Toronto is expected to get more in return in addition to Dike.
The move comes days after Toronto fired president and GM Kevin Payne.
Urrutti saw just 37 minutes of action with Toronto, in two substitute appearances.
Dike ruptured his Achilles tendon in the pre-season but was on the Timbers’ bench for their 4-0 win over Toronto on Saturday. He scored nine goals in 12 games for Portland last season.
