Teen driver identified, charges mulled in Vancouver Island hit and run

COMOX, B.C. – A suspect has been identified in a hit and run accident on Vancouver Island that left a severely injured woman lying for hours in a roadside marsh.

Comox Valley RCMP say a 16-year-old driver is being questioned and two Criminal Code charges, including dangerous driving causing bodily harm, are being considered.

The vehicle believed to be involved in the crash was found on a rural road in Courtenay and is now being thoroughly examined.

Mounties say the woman was hit late Wednesday night while walking along Comox Road, between Courtenay and Comox, suffering what investigators have described as “life changing” injuries to her arm and leg.

They say it was at least four hours before she was found but she’s now recovering in a Victoria hospital.
