NEW YORK, N.Y. – Former Secretary of Defence Robert M. Gates has a title and release date for his memoir.
Publisher Alfred A. Knopf announced Monday that the book will be called “Duty: Memoirs of a Secretary at War” and will come out in January. The memoir was first announced in 2011.
Gates will cover his years as defence secretary under Republican President George W. Bush and Democratic President Barack Obama. He will focus on the country’s handling of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
According to Knopf, Gates writes in the introduction that his even public demeanour contrasted with his private “frustration, disgust and anger” when dealing with Congress. Gates will also describe his conflicts with the White House and the military establishment.
