NJ Supreme Court to release decision on case of municipal judge barred from comedy gig

NEWARK, N.J. – A judge in New Jersey is about to find out if the state’s highest court has a sense of humour.

The Supreme Court is scheduled on Thursday to release its decision on whether Vince Sicari can keep his job as a municipal judge while moonlighting as a comedian.

Sicari, whose stage name is Vince August, has carved out a career as a stand-up comic, appearing on network television and in New York City nightclubs.

He’s also a municipal judge in South Hackensack.

A state ethics board recommended in 2008 that Sicari quit his comedy work. It has expressed concern over Sicari’s character depictions on an ABC reality show and the content of some of his sketches.

Sicari appealed that ruling to the state’s highest court, which heard arguments in February.
