Pan Am 2015 committee told to tighten rules after ‘unacceptable’ expense claims

TORONTO – Premier Kathleen Wynne says the Ontario government has told the Toronto organizing committee for the 2015 Pan Am Games to tighten their rules on expenses.

The Conservatives demanded an auditor general’s investigation after documents obtained under freedom of information showed Pan Am CEO Ian Troop, who is paid $477,000, billed 91 cents for a parking spot.

Progressive Conservative Leader Tim Hudak says it’s outrageous that other well-paid Pan Am officials billed taxpayers for everything from a cup of tea to lavish dinners and travel.

Hudak says the culture of entitlement the Liberals allowed to flourish at agencies like eHealth is alive and well at the Pan Am Games, which are still two years away.

Wynne told the legislature she agrees some of the Pan Am expenses were unacceptable, and said the government ordered officials to tighten and clarify the rules three weeks ago.

She also urged Toronto city council and the federal Conservatives to help ensure the Pan Am executives follow the new rules because the organizing committee was created by all three levels of government.
