Man and woman dead after shooting at strip mall near St. John’s, N.L.

CONCEPTION BAY SOUTH, N.L. – Police in eastern Newfoundland say the victims of a fatal double shooting Tuesday were a man and a woman.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary says the shooting happened around 7 p.m. at the Villa Nova Plaza in Conception Bay South, about 25 kilometres southwest of St. John’s.

Const. Talia Murphy says the police force has identified a person of interest in the case who was known to the two victims.

Murphy wouldn’t release any other details about the police investigation.

Police officers scoured an area in the community late Tuesday and residents were told to stay inside their homes.

Meanwhile, the Eastern School District says three of its schools in the area that were closed early today were scheduled to re-open for afternoon classes.

Local radio station VOCM is reporting that the shooting took place inside a doctor’s office, but Murphy said she couldn’t confirm the report.
