Canadians Duhamel and Radford drop to third after long program at Skate Canada

SAINT JOHN, N.B. – Canadians Meagan Duhamel and Eric Radford had to settle for bronze at Skate Canada International on Saturday.

The leaders after the pairs short program dropped to third after a long program that had them score low marks across the board.

Skating to music from “Alice in Wonderland,” Duhamel, from Lively, Ont., and Radford, from Balmertown, Ont., scored 190.62 total points and brought the Harbour Station crowd to its feet with an energetic program.

A groan went up moments later after their marks were displayed, which included zero points for a bungled lift.

Italians Stefania Berton and Ondrej Hotarek won the gold with 193.92 points, while China’s Sui Wenjing and Han Cong claimed the silver (193.77).

Paige Lawrence of Kennedy, Sask., and Rudi Swiegers of Kipling, Sask., were fourth.
