B.C. doctor convicted of sex assault banned from practising medicine

VICTORIA – The B.C. College of Physicians and Surgeons has stripped a Victoria, B.C., doctor of his registration after he was convicted of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old female patient.

The college board says it concluded that the conduct of Dr. Farrokh Rohani was so egregious and disgraceful that it handed out the most severe penalty available under the Health Professionals Act.

Rohani sexually assaulted the young woman in August 2008 and was charged a month later.

The doctor hasn’t practised medicine since that time.

He was convicted of the assault and sentenced to a year in jail and then lost an appeal in B.C.’s highest court.

Rohani was also ordered to pay more than $14,000 in contribution to the college’s costs.
